SENATE RESOLUTION NO. 47
(By Senators Deem and Boley)
Congratulating the Parkersburg High School Big Reds football team
for winning the 2001 Class AAA championship.

Whereas, The Parkersburg High School football team has won a
record nine state championships: 1938, 1940, 1943, 1950, 1958,
1976, 1978, 1999 and 2001; and

Whereas, For the fourth straight year, five Parkersburg High
School teammates were named to the Class AAA first team: Marc
Kimes, Mark Swisher, Billy Johnson, Ryan Rader and Matt Lauer; and

Whereas, Parkersburg High School Big Reds football team ended
the 2001 regular season with a 10-1 record, earning it the chance
to participate in the Class AAA championship playoffs; and

Whereas, Because of the team spirit and outstanding
sportsmanship of each team player, the Parkersburg High School Big
Reds brought the Class AAA championship title home to the City of
Parkersburg; therefore, be it

Resolved by the Senate:

That the Senate hereby congratulates the Parkersburg High
School Big Reds football team for winning the 2001 Class AAA
championship; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Senate hereby congratulates
Parkersburg High School for winning its ninth state championship in the school's history; and, be it

Further Resolved, That the Clerk is hereby directed to forward
a copy of this resolution to coach Craig Farnsworth and members of
the Parkersburg High School Big Reds football team.
